SYMPOSIUM: Multi-Disciplinary Teams-
More Than Just a Meeting

Thursday 22nd June 2017 | Westmead Institute of Medical Research
Workshop + networking: 1.30 - 5.30pm

ABOUT

Multi-Disciplinary Teams (MDTs) are transitioning from running regular meetings focused on discussing patients, into a powerful vehicle for driving translational research from basic science through to implementation science and quality improvement. This symposium aims to share strategies, frameworks and case studies of successes and challenges experienced as MDTs take their next steps to integrate data, methodologies, perspectives, and concepts from multiple disciplines to advance fundamental understanding or to solve real world problems.

Attendees:
MDT leads and members, quality improvement professionals, health policy offers and T2-T3 Researchers

Featuring:
  • Keynote presentations highlighting new research,
  • Case Study examples of strategies used to develop MDTs to the next level,
  • Expert panel debate!

REALISING THE ROLE OF BASIC SCIENCE IN THE TRANSLATIONAL RESEARCH CENTRES: Are we there yet?

17 May @ The Kolling Institute
Sydney Vital + Implementation Science Community of Practice

For Basic researchers, T2-T4 researchers, clinicians who are affiliated to a NSW Translational Cancer Research Centre (TCRC), and community of practice members and others with an interest in the translational pipeline.

Picture
 WORKSHOP AIMS
  1. Assist T1 researchers to identify and prioritise their research to meet the objectives and capabilities of the TCRCs
  2. Facilitate partnerships within and between TCRCs to fulfil the transition of T1 research through the continuum right through to implementation (T1-T4).
  3. Enable T1 researchers to articulate the significance of their work to optimise grant success

eHealth Implementation Workshop

26 AUGUST 2016
The Centre for Oncology Education and Research Translation (CONCERT) hosted this workshop, which aimed to increase participant understanding of:
  • The relevance of implementation science to eHealth
  • Theories and frameworks relevant to eHealth implementation
  • Barriers and facilitators to eHealth implementation
  • Practical issues associated with eHealth implementation
  • How to plan for and evaluate the success of eHealth implementation
The workshop was presented by:
  • Dr Ben Smith, CONCERT Translational Research Fellow
  • Professor Enrico Coiera, Director of the Centre for Research Excellence in eHealth at Macquarie University,
  • Associate Professor Anne Miller, Human Factors Specialist and User Experience Lead at eHealth NSW,
  • with Professor Janette Vardy, Professor Tim Shaw and Dr Heather Shepherd

Health Economics Workshop: with Prof Marion Haas and Richard De Abreu Lourenco, April 2016

About the workshop

All implementation programs and health service innovations are required to include an economic evaluation. In light of increasingly limited health care resources and growing concerns about quality of care, effective implementation strategies to improve service delivery and outcomes have grown in popularity.

Economic evaluations can inform decisions about the efficiency and allocation of resources to implementation strategies - strategies explicitly designed to inform care providers and patients about the best available research evidence and to enhance its use in their practices.

This practical workshop addressed the importance of economic evaluation in the context of implementation science and how these analyses can be most efficiently incorporated into decision-making processes and grant applications.

Emerging Models of Professional Development: Bringing Evidence Based Care into Practice

Presented by Dr Robert Birnbaum, MD, PhD, Vice President of Continuing Professional Development at Partners Healthcare, July 2015

This workshop focussed on facilitating factors and barriers to adoption in the clinical setting of evidence based health care practices. The key presentation addresses how behavioral change interventions need to involve basic principles of adult learning theory as well as neurocognitive science and how advances in information technology are validating impact assessments. This workshop covers knowledge translation (T3) and clinical quality improvement initiatives.
